Kamala Harris is endorsed for president by Taylor Swift

After teasing her support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election on Tuesday, Taylor Swift put an end to rumors that the pop sensation would support the same candidate in November.

"Like many of you, I tuned in to tonight's debate. Now is a great time, if you haven't already, to learn more about the issues at hand and the positions these candidates take on the subjects that are most important to you. Shortly after her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, and Harris wrapped up their ABC News debate, Swift posted on Instagram, saying, "As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed

I recently learned that an artificial intelligence (AI) image purporting to represent me was uploaded to Donald Trump's website. My concerns about AI and the risks of disseminating false information were evoked by it. It led me to the conclusion that, as a voter, I must be extremely open about my true intentions for this election. The truth is the most straightforward weapon against false information. In the 2024 presidential election, Tim Walz and Kamala Harris have my vote.

Early in August, after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential contest, Harris was selected as the Democratic Party's nominee. Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz was named by Harris as her running mate later that month.

Swift brought up Harris' selection of Walz in her support.

"I'm supporting @kamalaharris in my vote because she stands up for causes and rights that I feel need a champion. I think she is a calm, capable leader, and if she leads us instead of leading chaos, I think we can accomplish so much more in this country. Swift wrote, "I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of running mate @timwalz, who has been fighting for decades for a woman's right to her own body, IVF, and LGBTQ+ rights."

"I've made my decision after conducting my research. You are the only one who can conduct the research and make the decision. Additionally, I want to remind everyone—especially new voters—that you must be registered in order to cast a ballot. I also think casting a ballot early is much simpler. In my story, I'll include a link to register and information about early voting dates.

Swift concluded the post by referring to herself as a “childless cat lady,” a reference to a term that Trump's running mate, Sen. JD Vance, had previously used to disparage Democrats.

Prior to endorsing two Democratic candidates from Tennessee in the 2018 midterm elections, Swift has largely avoided politics for the better part of her nearly two-decade career. Since then, she has been an outspoken supporter of Democratic candidates and policies, frequently urging her followers to cast ballots and speaking out in favor of LGBTQ+, women's, and reproductive health rights.

In the highly charged scene of her 2020 documentary "Miss Americana," Swift told her father Scott that she felt compelled "to be on the right side of history" and expressed regret for not speaking up about political causes sooner. In a different scene, she attacked Trump.

A group of Swift supporters dubbed "Swifties" organized during the 2024 election cycle and created an online community called Swifties for Kamala soon after Biden withdrew from the contest and endorsed Harris.

During its two-hour kickoff call in August, the group—with thousands of followers on X—which Swift is not associated with—raised over $122K. Speakers included vocalist Carole King and Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Carly Long, the director of Swifties for Kamala's communications, previously told CNN, "We believe Harris-Walz will fight for our rights and the rights of our loved ones and help make this country safer for everyone."
