Numerous train accidents in Germany leave hundreds of people stranded.

Hundreds of passengers were left stranded on Saturday due to significant train disruptions in Germany, as authorities attempted to restore traffic after a technical malfunction. Now, some traffic is moving again.

A technical issue has "massively affected" train services in central Germany, according to Deutsche Bahn, the nation's rail operator.

A radio communications failure resulted in numerous train cancellations throughout the greater Frankfurt area, according to Tagesschau, the news service of public broadcaster ARD.

According to Tagesschau, trains going to and from Frankfurt experienced disruptions, and traffic through the important travel and financial hub was stopped.

According to Tagesschau, hundreds of travelers were left stranded at Frankfurt's Central Station on Saturday, with no indication of when they would be able to continue traveling.

The Rhine/Main Regional Transport Association, or RMV, is one of the largest transport associations in Germany. It announced on social media on Saturday that neither S-Bahn nor regional trains could operate because of a technical issue with radio communications, and that "train services in the RMV area have been suspended until further notice."

RMV stated at the time that "the duration of the disruption cannot currently be foreseen."

What exactly caused the technical error is still unknown.

Deutsche Bahn announced later on Saturday that the technical issue had been fixed. "Central Germany's rail traffic is getting back on track. Up until the end of the day, there might be interruptions, it stated.

Tagesschau states that Frankfurt is one of the major transportation hubs in Europe, with about 1,200 local and long-distance trains operating on a daily basis.
