No need to panic, the mpox patient at LNJP hospital is stable, according to Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj

According to Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, the mpox patient admitted to LNJP Hospital here is in a stable condition as of Tuesday. Surprisingly, Bharadwaj visited the hospital to evaluate measures for handling dengue and mpox outbreaks.

"The LNJP hospital has one confirmed case of mpox. He's traveled before, and it's thought that he contracted the infection while overseas," the minister stated.

"The patient is being kept apart in a different ward. His health is stable," he continued.

According to a health department official, the 26-year-old patient, who lives in Hisar, Haryana, only has genital ulcers and skin rashes; he does not have a fever.

Bharadwaj emphasized that since mpox spreads through contact rather than the air, there was no need to be alarmed.

On Monday, the Union Health Ministry declared that there was no immediate risk to the public and that it was a "isolated case."

"The patient is a young man in isolation at a tertiary care isolation facility. He recently traveled from a nation where the mpox virus is still spreading. The ministry had stated that the patient is still in a clinically stable state and does not have any comorbidities or systemic illnesses.

On Saturday, the patient was admitted to the government-run LNJP Hospital in Delhi.

Because of the disease's widespread distribution and high prevalence throughout much of Africa, the World Health Organization (WHO) last month designated mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) for the second time.

Two more hospitals are in reserve, but LNJP has been named the nodal facility.

There are twenty isolation rooms at the LNJP Hospital, ten of which are reserved for patients with confirmed cases. Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospitals will each have ten rooms for these patients, five of which will be reserved for suspected cases.
